As I write this article, I am in my seventh day of a ten day,

liquid fast. The first day was the hardest for several

reasons, one of them being my constant thoughts of

food ... that was all that I could think about throughout

the day (naturally!). I have been blessed to always have

something to eat; it might not have always been a huge

four- or five-course meal, and it might not have always

been exactly what I wanted to eat at the time, however, it

was a meal that was afforded to me .. .it was there ... either

at my home, the home of my family or friends.

While thinking about what I wanted to share with you

regarding my desire to volunteer feeding the clients at The

Bridge Homeless Assistance Shelter, memories of

the first day of my fast came to mind; As my stomach

sometimes rumbled and groaned due to a lack of solid

food, I thought .. .is this how the citizens we help feed at

the Shelter feel when they do not have anything to eat?

I would think so. I had to also remember that I had only

gone ONE day without food at that time. To put things

into perspective, many of the clients have gone days

without a meal prior to going to the Shelter. It is my

belief that we are here to serve others. As God's

children, we are also commissioned to use all that He

gives us to serve others. The brief time that I serve

feeding those in need at The Bridge is a way for me to

fulfill that commission, and it is personally rewarding to

be able to do my small part.

"Each one of us should use whatever gift he has

received to serve others, faithfully administering God's

grace in its various forms." I Peter 4:10 (NIV).

The DFW Chapter of Community NETwork first

serving was March 28th and the last one for this year

will be November 28th• THANK YOU to all of my

fellow volunteers that have unselfishly shared your time

and desire to serve others. Your service is sincerely

appreciated.
